Job Description

Community & Development Services Department

Duties: Coordinates & performs work in preparation & implementation of the City’s community development plans; assists and/or maintains flood plain maps & administers flood plain policies; assists in the development & updating of codes & ordinances; performs complex research & manage records for proposed projects & regulatory matters; plans & conducts public outreach/participation activities such as public meetings, outreach events, & presentations; prepares comprehensive reports based upon careful research & study of planning & zoning problems; gathers, analyzes & presents data in the form of written, graphic or oral reports for use before boards, advisory committees & public hearings; processes subdivision, annexation & zoning requests including researching & analyzing applications for compliance & conformity with applicable rules & regulations; writes & interprets technical reports & maintain a wide variety of records.

Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, public administration or related field; AICP certification or AICP candidate status preferred.

Experience: Three (3)–five (5) years of planning experience; familiarity with boards & commissions; current and/or long range planning ability; skilled in Geographical Information System (GIS) preferred.

Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Starting pay DOQ:
Planner I: (Starting pay: $43,368-48,572/yr.; Full pay: $43,368-69,210/yr.); Planner II: (Starting pay: $50,241- 56,261/yr.; Full pay: $50,241-80,218/yr.) EOE
